Using a drift sock

A drift sock is essentially a parachute for your boat. It is tied to the boat via a rope, and then deployed into the water where is will open up and create drag. In windy situations, a drift sock will serve to reduce your speed and help you control the direction of your boat. They come in all sizes, from 18 inches to 10 feet in diameter. Depending on the size of your boat and the wind speed, you will have to experiment with what size sock works best. I have a selection of drift socks, and often have to put out more than one to reach my desired drift speed. I will be working on a video soon, to help you better understand drift socks and how they can help you catch more fish! If you are interested in purchasing a drift sock, I highly recommend calling Easterlin Sea Anchors at (843) 753-2353. This business is located in S.C. and the owner makes custom drift socks to order. She has been doing this for a long time and makes them for all of the guides on Santee Cooper. The quality and the price are hard to beat!
